309 RAT SHIRT BY CASEY NICCOLI
Casey Niccoli shared her inspiration for this design.
She writes:
Attending the residency at 309 Punk Project was the highlight of my year. I didn’t realize how much I needed to be dropped into a space of pure, uninterrupted creativity. My rat shirt came from the fact that I was born in the Year of the Rat, and because rats have always felt like the true mascots of the outsiders, symbols of resilience, mischief, and creative abundance.
I spent my nights alone in that big old punk house, and honestly, if it hadn’t been for a few rats scurrying through at two in the morning, I wouldn’t have had anyone to cozy up to.
FYI, we have since resolved this issue. We think.
FLAMING SKULL WATERTOWER BY FAMOUS GABE
Riffing off the iconic 309 Water tower tattoo from the early 2000s, of which he tattooed the first on local Pensacola punks, Famous Gabe designed this shirt in his iconic style.
About the design, Gabe said: "This water tower design is a connection between the punk house and tattooing in the history of Pensacola tattooing. It's based on a William Grimshaw design from the 1950s. William tattooed on Spring Street up until his death in 1968. Punk rock and tattooing went hand in hand for me for the last 40 years. But I'm also reminded by my father who said every old house will always have skeletons in its closets."

"Don't Say Sky" Broadsheet by Erica Dawn Lyle (Benefit for STRIVE)
Only a few left!
Erica Dawn Lyle's poem Don't Say Sky is a powerful response to anti-transgender/anti-queer legislation in the state of Florida. The poem, accompanied by the large format photo series, 6 Photographs Of The Sky Over Cape Canaveral On The Third Anniversary Of Emma Deboncouer’s Death (2021), was originally written for and exhibited as part of 309's "House Show" exhibit at the Pensacola Museum of Art. This new broadsheet was designed and screenprinted in a limited edition of one hundred by students from the Studio Art Department at Oberlin College during Lyle’s week-long residency at the school in October 2025 with the specific intention to be sold as a fundraiser for Florida transgender mutual aid groups.
The proceeds from the sale of the broadsheets will be donated to Pensacola's STRIVE--a grassroots transgender advocacy organization.
The donations are on a sliding scale of $20-100 which includes all postage and packaging. Choose the option that fits best in your budget, but please be as generous as possible.

A Punkhouse in the Deep South: An Oral History of 309
Told in personal interviews, this is the collective story of a punk community in an unlikely town and region, a hub of radical counterculture that drew artists and musicians from throughout the conservative South and earned national renown.
Each voice adds to the picture of a lively community that worked together to provide for their own needs while making a positive, lasting impact on their surrounding area. Together, these participants show that punk is more than music and teenage rebellion. It is about alternatives to standard narratives of living, acceptance for the marginalized in a rapidly changing world, and building a sense of family from the ground up.
Including photos by Cynthia Connolly and Mike Brodie, A Punkhouse in the Deep South illuminates many individual lives and creative endeavors that found a home and thrived in one of the oldest continuously inhabited punkhouses in the United States.
Aaron Cometbus has been publishing the zine Cometbus since 1981. He is the author of many books, including Double Duce and I Wish There Was Something That I Could Quit.
Scott Satterwhite is a historian, educator, and journalist who teaches writing and literature at the University of West Florida. Cometbus and Satterwhite are former residents of the 309 punkhouse.
